La Piramide Sospesa

Riccardo Bianco and Gerta Beqiri in Albania. “La Piramide Sospesa” is a short reportage about the building in Tirana that once housed the museum of Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha. Inaugurated in the late 1980s, a few years after his death, the structure today stands in a state of total abandonment, despite various attempts over the years of political pluralism to repurpose, renovate, or even demolish it.

The reportage appears to delve into the current Albanian reality, marked by heated debates over the use of public space, new urban planning, and the handling of historical legacy. However, it is the metaphorical reading that quickly takes precedence, following an initial play of contrasts with striking imagery.

The sad condition of the abandoned Pyramid reveals much about a people still in search of their identity.
